I Don’t Normally Eat Flowers, But…

Under normal circumstances – I put too much butter on my toast. I like my steak medium. I bake because I like to eat what comes out of the oven. But I think I am being enticed over to the dark side…

Julatten Earth Foods makes something that I never thought I’d be tempted to eat. In fact, it never crossed my mind – or if it had, I’d laugh it off as a bad dream, but when I came across JEF’s edible flowers…well…just look at them…

The closest I’ve ever come to eating flowers is Dandelion tea (which, some of you may know, is more like a pretend coffee) So while this may seem like a review, seeing as I’ve never actually tried the above flowers, it’s not. So why the post? Cause I just think they’re cool and had to share.


I came across these beauties through a Facebook post Beach Harvest Australian Coconuts shared (a friend of mine who also has an amazing product that I have eaten and I can highly recommend) and I was mesmerised by the colourful merchandise, grown nearby.

It’s not that they look tasty. My mouth certainly doesn’t water when I look at flowers, but the fact that you can eat something so beautiful without being poisoned has got my curiosity piqued. Therefore, I have them pocketed in my mind for a time when I want a morning tea to be memorable… imagine a table full of fruits/cheese/cupcakes and edible flowers.

Now I just have to find an excuse for the above mentioned morning tea. And you are all invited so you can oooh and aahhh my lovely spread.

And that’s all I have to say really. I just wanted to share… and if you’ve eaten flowers before, leave a comment and let me know how they taste – I like to be prepared.

  1. Hello!! So glad you shared my beautiful produce! Yes I live and farm in the same unique mountain range/climate as Casey! I have a 5 acre farm that is is set up as a food farm. I grow all sorts of tropical and subtropical fruit trees and vines, as well as herbs , vegetables and of course my new addiction is finding as many species of edible flowers from around the world.

    So far I have 30 species, though not all under major production, slowly slowly! My newest seeds to emerge is the Agati tree…this is well used in Asian cookery..
    Not all the flowers have amazing flavours but some can knock your socks off.
    i.e Nasturtiums, Alliums, Pineapple Sage

    And of course I am a beekeeper as well. The honey I harvest from my girls has the most amazing flavours! My girls are very happy to have 5 acres of flowers and of the Daintree rainforest surrounding us, to say the least!

        Sounds like an outing is on the calendar??
        Years back there was a spot in Naples, NY where they put Nasturtiums and ?Johnny Jump-ups on the lunch plates. So beautiful I couldn’t bring myself to eat them

          Yeah, maybe we can get some coconut chips from Casey and stop and pick up some flowers while we’re there

            Sounds good!! Kate is lovely and not far from us – she’s just down the road from Julatten’s best swimming hole, Churchhill Creek.
